Pendragon The Pendragon Cycle Book 4 Stephen R Lawhead 9780380717576 Books Reviews
Once you start the Pendragon cycle you can't stop. You have to read the next and the next. And then you want to read the rest of Stephen R. Lawhead's books. The world of Arthur and Merlin is real and exciting and you can't guess what's going to happen next.
The only problem I have with any of Mr. Lawhead's books is the preponderance of warmongering, no matter the setting. Not hardly Christ-like. I do like the presentation of the Aurthurian legend though.
A fine addition to the wonderful "Pendragon Cycle". Follows Arthur, Merlin and other characters from the "Summer Kingdom"! Fans of myth and fantasy reads will want to indulge in this entire series. JRR Tolkien readers - jump in on this!
The entire series is fantastic. I read all five of the books and lost myself in a world of brave men, strong women, magic and myth. I love that all the stories are told from the point of view of people involved. I have discovered a new (to me) author and can't wait to order the Dragon King Series. I downloaded all to my . I have always loved to read and stopped because I developed arthritis and it hurt my hands to keep books open. I LOVE MY KINDLE AND THE KINDLE VERSION OF THE BOOKS!!!!
I would actually give it a 3.5 or 3.75 out of 5.
The franchise is starting to show some strain. Mr. Lawhead stresses that he is basing his retelling on materials earlier and less muddied than other versions but I could not escape the feeling that some twists and skewed events were written in that way just to be twisty and skewed. In other words, I was not so immersed in the world that I could leave behind the more familiar legends. I enjoyed it but will not be going on to the next books in the series.
As w/Lawhead's other books in the Pendragon Cycle, Pendragon is a very exciting book. His use of Celtic names for the main characters in the Arthurian legend are enticing, once I learned "who was who."
Lawhead's characters are humanly fallable, but yet led by the Holy Spirit in their effort to establish the High King of Britain as representative of Heaven's High King.
Each book in the cycle drew me enexorably to the next book. Five stars for the whole Lawhead and the whole Pendragon Cycle.
Pendragon is a great series. There is lots of subtle story lines within the main story. Easy read as most of the books took me a week to finish. I would recommend getting the e-book as this will cost way less than paperback. Before you start the series, make sure you read the books in the proper order. This is not the same order they were published. I know its weird but I learned this after I finished the entire series. I think the order is Books 1, 2, 3, 4 (first half), 5, 4 (second half). This puts the series in chronological order.
Also, if you liked Pendragon, I would recommend Hood, Scarlet, and Tuck. Its about Robin Hood but with a Welsh twist.
