As much as I liked the first book I was a little worried when I started the first paragraph of Delon City. In the first few sentences, the feel of this book was much different, but as I read on it was clear that the storytelling was still top notch.Delon City takes Oz and his companions in a much different direction, while the twist and turns keep you guessing and off your feet for the entire book. The imagery in this book was very well done also. The monsters in this book were Lovecraftian horrors that created mental images that stuck with me for quite a while.
The direction it took at the end, was much like the season-ending cliff hanger of your favorite show. I cannot wait until I can start reading the third installment.

Not bad for a second book. It caught my attention almost immediately. The ending really got my attention - need to get book 3 now, cuz I really want to know how the story happens.
Not as good as the first book. Still enjoyable. Hope the next picks up. Overall a good series. I recommend.
I had gotten the first book in this series free from quite a while back, but had never read it.
I had cause to spend about a week in the hospital sitting with my mom, who was critically ill.
Looking desperately for something to take me away from the reality of that little room, I turned to this series.
I read the first book in the series, The Takers one night. The next night, I bought this one, Delon City. And I ended up buying and reading each book in the series on each of the subsequent nights.
I think these are classified as Young Adult books. I suppose that's because there's no sex. I'm a retired guy, and found them wildly entertaining.
If you don't mind a little gore and want mind bending scenarios, this is the series for you.
I must say that this story (The Oz Chronicles) is amazing. The writing isn't the best and there are some typos, but the story...the story is enthralling. I find myself drawn in, wanting more. Delon City is book two of the set. The Storytellers are still at it, creating new monsters that challenge our hero with every turn. This is a definite read to anyone who loves a good thriller story with creative monsters and characters. Bravo to RW Ridley. Keep 'em coming!
After finishing The Takers I was in dire need to read this book, the 2nd in the series. However, I didn't care for this one as much. I had trouble following this book and then ending left me wondering just what in the world was going on. However, it's not a bad book. It plays into this series perfectly. To me, Delon City felt much darker and had more gore than The Takers. And the mystery side of it had me too confused. However, if you loved The Takers you MUST read this book and the next one (The Pure) as well. If you started with this book and are lost, read The Takers, this isn't the kind of series you can read out of order.
The Delons make the Takers seem nice. They are an insect race, and I suspect the author did some research on insects. One of the Delons, a skinner eats the skin of it's living human victims then lays eggs inside them which soon hatch, but somehow keep the victim alive for the next few days as they eat the human from the inside out saving the vital organs for last. As far as I'm concerned that was worth the price of the book. Our hero is trapped in an insane asylum for the second book and is remembering all this through hypnotism. My only concern is he seems to get farther and farther from reality, and it's hard to tell what's real and what's hallucination. The third book brings no conclusion to the story, so one hopes the author will bring things to a satisfactory end.
This is book two of the Oz Chronicles. I would place this book in the horror fantasy category, one I do not normally read; however, I found this entire series to be utterly absorbing and fascinating. The premise is unusual and unique and very well executed. I was introduced to the series via a Facebook recommendation and I'm very glad I took a chance on book one of the chronicles. Once I got started, I could not put the book down, then quickly moved on to book two and book three - pretty much as fast as my eyes could take in the words and my brain could process the information.
I give the entire series two thumbs up - you will want to read them all in order!!
