This is a fairly light read about two friends who have grown apart in adulthood. Katherine and Lacey grew up together. They dreamed of getting out of small-town Vermont. One was successful, one was not. When a death brings them back together there's angst and they wonder about reconciliation.

Those who read this sort of book, myself included, will not be surprised by the themes. The realization of adulthood that choices are limited, the understanding that all choices come with regrets, the growing apart of friends, all of these are here in spades. When I think "women's fiction" this is exactly the book that comes to mind. Overall, it is entertaining enough, but nothing special.

It keeps you interested and turning pages. The characters are likable. First book I’ve read by this author. Will look for more
Sweet story of two girls growing up as best friends, only to have a serious falling out before college. An inheritance brings them back together, forcing them to work through the problems they ignored 12 years before. A bit predictable (and unlikely), but still a nice, feel good book for sure.
Excellent story of two girls who become instant bffs even though they are very different and grow up almost as sister's through their teenage years. Sadly they end up growing apart letting their adult choices and jealousy get in the way of their friendship.

The story starts out a bit slow then becomes a major page turn. I found it to be a great read but the ending was bit a typical, even though I felt sad to see the book come to an end. I liked the life of both women and was very happy to feel like a part of it.

I totally enjoyed the read and Emily's writing style. I will be waiting for Emily's next book to be released in September 2014.
I enjoyed this book about two old friends who had lived one house away from one another as children, angrily parted ways when going to college and then reconnecting through the death (and reading of the will) of a former neighbor woman who had lived between them and who, in fact, drove them to meet again due to the reading of her will and the terms stated therein.

Well written, although at first I found the going back and forth between present time and the past a bit confusing (until I got to the know the characters, too). Once accomplished -- and not difficult -- no confusion. Interesting to see how the two women grew and changed as adult women from their earlier selves, which in some ways, we all do -- while retaining certain of their core traits.

I would recommend this book as a light read -- I read in less than a week with a somewhat busy schedule (as I wanted to see what happened), and will see what else this author has written, too.
have a soft spot for books about best friends, mostly because I have the most amazing BFF a girl could ever ask for. So when I happened upon Emily Liebert's You Knew Me When in the Top 100, I wanted to give it a shot so I could feel all nostalgic about my own bestie and appreciate just how lucky I am to have had such an incredible person in my life for the last 21 years.

You Knew Me When started off quickly, introducing Katherine and Laney, who couldn't be more different from one another. Katherine's a high-powered ad executive for a world-famous cosmetics company and Laney's a happily married mother of one who manages the local spa in her hometown. The two women are brought back together after a twelve-year separation when their eccentric childhood neighbor, Luella, passes away and leaves the two of them her beautiful home and everything in it.

Katherine, formerly known to Laney as Kitty, and Laney haven't spoken since Katherine left to take a job in New York City, and the tension between them when they're brought together for the reading of Luella's will is wrought with discomfort and unspoken loathing. That loathing only grows as the two women discover that in order to receive their inheritance from Luella they have to combine efforts to get the house in order, or there will be no inheritance.

Thrust back together nearly against their will, Liebert uses flashback sequences from each of the girls' perspectives throughout the book, to their beginning of their friendship and eventually revealing what tore them apart.

It's a touching story, if not a bit predictable, and there were times I really thought younger Laney was one of the most selfish and despicable people I'd ever read about. And the more I thought about it, the more I realized I was so annoyed by Laney because she reminded me a little bit of my abrasive and overbearing teenage self. It was a definite lesson in finding heart and realizing that when you love someone, you overlook their flaws and accept them for who they are, even if they are an unreasonable twit with an ego that could sink a ship.

I gave the book four out of five stars because I enjoyed it, but it's not one I'll be likely to read again. It was a fast-paced, easy read, and even though I spent a lot of the book wishing I could just strangle Laney for a few minutes, I actually enjoyed their story. As I said above, it felt a little predictable. I knew exactly how it was going to end by the time I reached the halfway point, which isn't always a bad thing, but the unfolding of the story made Laney seem somewhat shallow and unforgivable at times. I guess if you love someone thought, you overlook their unforgivable shallowness because you can see in ways others can't that they are so much deeper.

So, if you have a best friend you'd move mountains for, or someone you once loved so much you'd run away to the big city and try to make it with them, I think you'll enjoy You Knew Me When.
I did not want this book to end! This is the type of book that I love to read, strong friendship, love and reconciliation along with a great plot. Katherine aka Kitty Kat leaves behind a small New England town , her best friend and boyfriend for the glamorous New York City and an even more glamorous job. I love NYC and the thought of a high-powered career in a cosmetics company. I liked and related to Katherine much more that Laney, while I did like Laney, I was rooting in Katherine’s corner the whole time. The setting , small town Vermont and the plot, best friends now enemies, was great. I loved the small surprises along the way as well. Laney’s boss Tina was one of those characters you love to hate and want to see get what is coming to her. Luella, the rich older neighbor who left Laney and Katherine the inheritance was one of those characters you wished you knew but unfortunately you cannot, however the author writes her character so well that you feel like she is with you.

The book ends on a nice note with a few surprises. I hope to read more from this author soon.
